Small Wind Makes an Increasing Contribution to Carbon Emission Reduction Targets

Vancouver, BC February 10th 2011 – Endurance Wind Power declared the Core Sponsor of RenewableUK’s International Small Wind 2011 Conference and Exhibition.

“RenewableUK is delighted to confirm Endurance Wind Power as the Core Sponsor of our third annual International Small Wind Conference. Over 700 people are expected to attend this, the UK’s leading event for small wind systems, including industry leaders, landowners, farmers and anyone with an interest in small wind,” said Helen Jones, Director of Events and Marketing for RenewableUK

Held on April 5th and 6th in Gateshead, the event is dedicated to International Small Wind System Development. It offers educational seminars on the latest technical developments and international policies for small wind systems. The event will feature over fifty exhibitors, as well as side events for farmers, landowners, and public attendees who wish to learn more about installing wind turbines on their property.

“RenewableUK provides exemplary leadership in the drive to develop future sustainable energy options,” said Glenn Johnson, CEO of Endurance Wind Power. “In the last few years, small wind production in the United Kingdom has made an increasing contribution toward attaining national renewable energy and carbon reduction targets. This conference presents an opportunity for attendees to understand how we can shape the future growth of the small wind market and its additional contribution to these targets.”

The United Kingdom’s targets include providing 15% of their total energy supply from renewable sources and reducing their carbon emissions by 34% by 2020. Last month, RenewableUK supported the recommendation of the Committee on Climate Change to extend their carbon reduction goals to 60% by 2030. With this announcement, the Committee has emphasized the need for further investment in renewable energy. The national Feed-in-Tariff program has been a catalyst to obtaining these targets by providing payments to anyone producing renewable energy. From 2005-2009 a total of 13,915 small wind systems were installed in the United Kingdom, accounting for a capacity of 28.7MW. This market is expected to grow by 181% in 2010. RenewableUK is the trade and professional body for the UK wind and marine renewables industries. Formed in 1978, and with 650 corporate members, RenewableUK is the leading renewable energy trade association in the UK. Wind has been the world’s fastest-growing renewable energy source for the last seven years, and this trend is expected to continue due to the falling costs of wind energy and the urgent international need to tackle CO2 emissions in order to address climate change.
