- New report shows industry worth over £100m to British economy
- Endurance’s new plant produces turbines for global export
- First 225kW turbine installed in Cornwall
London - Endurance Wind Power has today welcomed the publication of RenewableUK’s Small and Medium Wind Market Report which shows that the industry doubled in size last year and is now worth £100m to the British economy.
The report confirms the UK’s leading role in the sector, with a rapidly expanding manufacturing and skills base.
Endurance’s investment in new manufacturing facilities in Hartlebury in the West Midlands is evidence of this boom in the farm wind market. The plant is creating up to 100 new green jobs and will eventually build 100 turbines per year. The first of the UK-built X29 225kW turbines came off the production line last month and was successfully installed on a farm in Cornwall. The new turbine will generate power for the dairy farm; up to 500,000 kWh per year which is the equivalent electricity used by almost 150 homes.
Endurance UK Managing Director, Dave Rankin said:
“RenewableUK’s new report shows the vital role that farm wind is playing in supporting the cash strapped rural economy, with 86% of small-scale turbines installed in rural areas. We’ve shown our long term commitment to the UK by investing in a new manufacturing facility with up to 100 new green jobs, so we can proudly say that when you choose an Endurance turbine, you’re supporting British jobs.”
Maria McCaffery, Chief Executive of RenewableUK said:
“With about 20% of our population living in rural areas, it’s vital that we find ways of powering the rural economy, and wind is doing exactly that. This technology is bringing over £100 million into the rural economy and in the past couple of years we have seen the market almost double in size.”
Endurance will also be attending RenewableUK’s International Small and Medium Wind Conference in Birmingham in early November to showcase their newest turbine, the X29 being produced in Hartlebury

Editors Notes:
1. Endurance Wind Power is a Canadian and UK based manufacturer of advanced small wind turbines, both 50kW and 225kW in size, designed specifically for distributed wind power applications. Their line of modern, induction-based wind turbines brings efficient, reliable, safe and quiet, renewable energy within reach of homeowners, farmers, businesses and institutions across North America, the United Kingdom and an expanding global market.
Endurance has the largest install base of turbines in the 50kW-100kW class in the UK with over 450 E- Series 50kW turbines currently running. Endurance has now started production of the larger X-Series 225KW turbine in a UK based assembly plant. The new turbine is targeted specifically at farmers who wish to reap a higher financial return and power output than from smaller turbines, but don’t want to install larger towers synonymous with wind farms. Endurance turbines are smaller than standard pylons and less than a third of the height of traditional utility scale turbines.
The X-Series turbine ranges from 30m to 40m in height and generates 450,000-850,000 kWh p/a depending on wind levels. Based on wind speeds of 7-9 m/s the X-Series turbines generate about 780,000 kWh p/a which is enough to power larger farms and dairies, industrial sites, hospitals, schools or whole communities with clean-energy.
