Endurance welcomes Agri-Renewables Strategy affirming Holyrood’s commitment to Farm Wind

  • Strategy will aid Farm Wind development in Scotland
  • New finance deal will support Scottish farmers

London - Endurance Wind Power has today welcomed the publication of the Scottish Government’s Agri-Renewables Strategy, which aims to boost the development of renewable energy projects on farms in Scotland.

Endurance Wind Power is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of farm scale wind turbines, with almost 500 turbines installed on farms across the UK, 38 of these being in Scotland. According to the new strategy there are 166 renewable installations operating on farms and estates in Scotland, evidence that Endurance turbines make up a significant proportion of renewable energy generation from Farm Wind.

Endurance Wind Power has been working to increase accessibility to Farm Wind for landowners, including by offering land-lease options. In 2013 the company announced the very first asset-backed financing vehicle for wind turbine owners, a creative new finance option that helps the hundreds of would-be owners who already have planning and grid approvals to finally secure up-front financing.

Endurance’s new UK factory is manufacturing a new range of 225kW turbines, which will help farmers generate additional income, insulate the rural economy from rising energy prices and give rural areas access to electricity that the grid may not provide.

Endurance UK Managing Director, Dave Rankin said:

“Endurance turbines can generate real income for Scottish farmers at a tough time for the agricultural sector. Endurance is committed to working with Scottish farmers to make sure that they can benefit from the energy security and financial returns that small and medium scale wind energy, or Farm Wind, provides. This Scottish Government’s announcement today reaffirms that it shares this commitment.”

Editors Notes:

1. Endurance Wind Power is a Canadian and UK based manufacturer of advanced small wind turbines, both 50kW and 225kW in size, designed specifically for distributed wind power applications. Their line of modern, induction-based wind turbines brings efficient, reliable, safe and quiet, renewable energy within reach of homeowners, farmers, businesses and institutions across North America, the United Kingdom and an expanding global market.

Endurance has the largest install base of turbines in the 50kW-100kW class in the UK with over 450 E- Series 50kW turbines currently running. Endurance has now started production of the larger X-Series 225KW turbine in an assembly plant in Hartlebury in the West Midlands. The new turbine is targeted specifically at farmers who wish to reap a higher financial return and power output than from smaller turbines, but don’t want to install larger towers synonymous with wind farms. Endurance turbines are smaller than standard pylons and less than a third of the height of traditional utility scale turbines.

The X-Series turbine ranges from 30m to 40m in height and generates 450,000-850,000 kWh p/a depending on wind levels. Based on wind speeds of 7-9 m/s the X-Series turbines generate about 780,000 kWh p/a which is enough to power larger farms and dairies, industrial sites, hospitals, schools or whole communities with clean-energy.
