Built For All Seasons
The Endurance is built to withstand heat and cold - Our test center in Utah experiences extremely hot temperatures in the Summer 100 degree F and very cold and icy weather in the winter. An example of this is a very nasty ice storm in February 2007 that occurred in Utah when the ice shut the Endurance Turbine down before taking grid service down as well. No damage was done to the machine, and all was well once the ice melted and the power was restored.
The Endurance unit was coated in ice at least an inch thick in places (see photo below). The Endurance control system prevents rotor rotation whenever such icing freezes the anemometer, providing a level of safety for the turbine and anything or anyone nearby.
