Choosing Your Wind Turbine Tower Height

Here are a few factors to consider when choosing your Wind Turbine Tower Height. Rule of thumb the higher the better but sometimes this is not realistic.

You may have some zoning by-laws that limit you to certain tower heights and that can play a big factor in your tower height decision.

If you cannot get your windmill above the buildings and trees that are around your wind turbine location then try to find another installation area. If you cannot then your wind production is going to be quite poor. There are some companies in the market which are promoting 35 Ft tower heights. They are doing this to simply get around a lot of height restrictions that exist in some local zones. It's a shame they are doing this, for its not realistic for you to expect strong performance from this wind turbine at such a low tower height.

The Endurance S-250 comes in four tiltable tower heights; 63 FT, 84 Ft, 105 Ft and 126 Ft towers.

To give you an idea of effectiveness of wind at higher tower heights - the difference in wind power production from a tower height of 63 Ft to 126 Ft can range from as low as 25% to as high as 50% more.

This would be assuming both heights have no wind barriers within 500 Ft from the turbine location and the closest wind barrier is 30 ft shorter than the turbine height.

In summary, when choosing your tower height, there should be no wind barriers within 500 Ft of the wind turbine and all barriers should be at least 30 Ft shorter than the turbine height.
